That is an odd combination. I could see them being so freckle faced if many of them had blue eyes, with blonde or ginger hair, but to have such Mediterranean colouring combined with freckles seems like a strange mix. Mind you, most of them were actually very attractive, and that sort of look does work, but I have not seen it as prevalent amongst any other nationality of women.

It's not odd to me, it's the predominant colouring in my very British family! We do have a French connection but it was many generations back. Perhaps the French look that way because of where they live! The same as Scandinavians are predominantly fair skinned and blonde! We English have been invaded so often we are too mixed to have a really identifiable colouring.

My French friend has blonde hair, green eyes and fair skin. NO freckles in sight! :P I'm from Lebanon and my sister is Lebanese too but she has fair skin, blue eyes and blonde hair when we're meant to be dark etc. ect. Hmmm... just depends on your gene pool i guess :)
